Early Access to SkatterBencher Content

This page explains how I create and schedule content, and how early access is available to supporters of the content I publish here, on YouTube, and on 5minuteoverclock.com.

Since SkatterBencher is not my full time job but rather an (intensive) hobby project, I want to make sure that I get as much joy from doing all the work as you get from viewing my videos or reading my blogs. That means I make sure that I don’t burn out by pushing myself to create ever more and ever faster content.

The way I work is as follows: a SkatterBencher project focuses on pushing the performance of a single chip and the output is (a) a full-length guide, (b) a five-minute overclock, (c) a thirty-second short, and (d) sometimes a follow up video to focus on a specific topic related to the platform. A project can take anywhere from 20 to 100 hours, usually falling around the 30 hour mark.

This content then gets published on YouTube and my blogs on a regular basis. My current work schedule permits me to publish a piece of content every 10 days. That’s the schedule you’ll find me sticking to on YouTube. Last year it was every 5 days and maybe next year it’s every 15 days. Sticking to a fixed schedule allows me to take enough time to do each guide properly without stressing (too much) about getting fresh content out.

For new hardware releases I do sometimes break this upload schedule and get the content ready for launch.

Sticking to a publishing schedule also means that often there’s multiple videos and blog posts in the pipeline. It’s happened there’s more than 10 videos scheduled. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve looked into how to give paying viewers and readers access to these ready-but-unpublished materials. At the moment, the early access looks as follows:

  • YouTube member Level 1 can access all unpublished Shorts.
  • YouTube member Level 2 can access all unpublished 5 Minute Overclock guides.
  • YouTube member Level 3 can access all unpublished SkatterBencher guides.
  • Patreon Tier 2 members can access all unpublished 5 Minute Overclock blog posts.
  • Patreon Tier 3 members can access all unpublished 5 Minute Overclock and SkatterBencher blog posts.

Note that for obvious reasons early access is not available for unreleased hardware. I’m still experimenting with various ways to enable early access to content so these rules may change in the future. Hope you understand :). Please let me know if you have any questions or comments on this policy.

Have a nice day!

Pieter.
