ASUS Enhanced Memory Profile

ASUS Enhanced Memory Profile (AEMP) is an ASUS technology allowing for automatic memory overclocking when the DDR5 memory lacks EXPO or XMP.

ASUS Enhanced Memory Profile (AEMP) is available in the ASUS BIOS under the Ai Overclock Tuner setting. The feature was introduced on the ASUS Z690 motherboards in 2021 with the introduction of DDR5 memory on the Alder Lake platform.

While Intel had developed the Xtreme Memory Profile (XMP) 3.0 technology to support memory frequencies beyond the JEDEC specification, not all memory kits supported XMP. That made it difficult to easily improve the performance of the DDR5 kits available at the time of the Alder Lake platform launch.

AEMP enables XMP-like automatic overclocking for non-XMP DDR5 memory sticks. AEMP has two distinct settings:

AEMP I tightens the memory timings to improve memory latency
AEMP II increases the memory operating frequency to improve the memory bandwidth

AEMP bypasses the limitations imposed by non-XMP PMICs and allow for higher voltage range which enables support for higher memory frequency and tighter memory timings. Furthermore, the BIOS firmware will detect the type of memory ICs (Micron, Samsung, Hynix) on your non-XMP memory kit and match it with a pre-tuned asus enhanced memory profile.

Since most DDR5 memory kits for enthusiasts now come with an XMP profile, the AEMP feature is not used that often anymore by enthusiasts.
